How to properly put on and take off PPE
We would like to preface this with saying that we are only telling you how we do it. There are many other ways to do it and other people might prefer other methods. That being said, we believe that there are some things that will be universally agreed upon when putting on PPE.
In this guide we will be showing you how to put on and take off PPE. Before I get into it there are a few things that need to be addressed…
Before putting anything on always check your hands for any debris or dirt that may have accumulated since you last washed them. If you do find any dirt, use the hand cleaner to take it off and then rewash your hands before putting on your PPE.
Suit: Put suit on next standing up. A minimum number of seams should be touching your skin at any given time during this step.
Hood: Put hood on sitting down with the front of your suit facing you.
Mask: Put mask on first sitting down in front of a mirror if possible. You should not need help to put it on.
Booties/shoe covers: It doesn’t matter which order you put these in but I find the easiest way to remember is to put them on your feet.
Gloves: Put gloves on standing up, make sure they are the correct size and that the wrist of the glove properly covers your wrist. Many people have issues with this step so make sure you practice putting them on in a place where you can see yourself in a mirror.
Properly putting on and taking off PPE is important for your safety. In some cases, it can also be the difference between life and death. We’ve covered the basics of how to put on and take off PPE in this blog post, but if you have any questions or need more specific information, please reach us.
